Nyko develops PSP TV adapter |
|
A new TV adapter has been developed that will allow PSP users to watch movies on a TV screen.
The Play on TV Adapter, manufactured by Nyko, uses a CCD camera to monitor the PSP's display and then feeds the image and stereo audio to the TV using RCA cables, reports the Macworld website.
Nyko states that the device "is easy to use and provides auto image adjustment allowing for the best image possible with no input required from the user".
Nyko has produced a range of PSP accessories recently, which include a new charger grip and the Theatre Experience.
The "ergonomically designed" charger grip, which is currently available for around £16, contains a rechargeable lithium battery which extends PSP play time by around five hours. Nyko also states that the system is "tough, durable and easy to install".
Commenting on the product, Susan Corben, vice president of marketing, Nyko Technologies, said: "The most important things about handheld gaming are portability, comfort and battery life. This product addresses all three."
Nyko's Theatre Experience is a "handheld into a portable home theatre system", which includes speakers, a charger and a protective case. The manufacturer's lithium ion battery also claims to add seven hours to total gaming time.

Multi-functionality drives PSP sales |
|
PSP sales have been driven by the range of different functions they offer to users, according to a new report from The NPD Group.
Owners have bought the console because it offers far more than a simple portable games player.
Around two-fifths of those surveyed said they were urged to buy the PSP because it allows them to watch TV and film content.
A further two-thirds said they owned movies or TV programmes on Universal Media Discs (UMD) or on other media to watch on their PSPs.
The remaining third commented they were likely to buy a UMD in the near future, though they don't necessarily care which format programmes and movies come in.
Anita Frazier, industry analyst at The NPD Group, commented: "Success of the UMD format depends on several key factors.
"PSP users state the main barrier to purchasing UMDs is price, followed by the available movie/TV selection."
"If the right content was priced more competitively with DVDs, UMD sales may see a lift," she added.
The survey was based on a survey of around 55,000 respondents, whose ages ranged between six and 44.

Boy caught showing PSPorn |
|
A boy in North Dakota has been placed with a class C felony, after being caught sharing pornography on his PSP.
The Bismarck tribune reports that the 14-year-old has been charged with promoting obscenity to minors for showing fellow pupils pornographic material he had stored on his console.
Lieutenant Dan Donlin of the Bismarck Police said the authorities were alerted after a staff watcher caught the boy with the offensive material.
It is reported that the boy has also been charged with simple assault "for scratching another student with a key".
The offender was caught after the boy he scratched told officials that he had pornography loaded on his PSP.
PSP owners were recently told that the firmware for their consoles was being updated with new features.

Sony updates PSP firmware |
|
Sony has released the latest firmware for the PSP that includes a variety of new features and settings.
The 2.70 firmware will include Macromedia Flash 6, which will allow PSP users to surf websites that have Flash content.
Users will also be able to handle complex podcasts in addition to the live streams captured via RSS.
The update will also let console owners download files, which can then be played off line off a memory stick.
One exciting addition sets the PSP up as a receiver for LocationFree TV, service that starts in May that lets users watch television remotely.
The innovative system broadcasts shows to a PSP console through a home TV tuner, allowing users to watch content wherever they are.
It also has recording facilities, with the option to record future programmes directly from the console.
Further updates include new AAC audio support, with video podcast support and VOIP telephony expected in updates later this year.
