New PSP rumoured to compete with iPhone |
|
It seems inevitable that a new iteration of the PSP will be on store shelves before the year is out. Name as yet unknown, rumours suggest that it is set to rival the iPhone. In fact, not only will the unit arrive before Christmas 2009, but it will also feature traits that place it in direct competition with Apple.
This new PSP will boast a large touch screen - just like the iPhone - but will also include the necessary gaming extras: the familiar D-pad and dual analogue controls.
Basically, this means that the new PSP will be able to handle both the standard handheld games that avid fans desire - titles like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and God of War:Chains of Olympus - along with the simpler, more casual games that are currently available on Apple's Store.

Jak and Daxter return this year |
|
The lid has been lifted on the first full platform outing for Naughty Dog’s popular pairing Jak and Daxter for five years – Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier. However, the popular duo are not lining up a next-gen debut, with the new title set to arrive on PSP and PS2 this autumn.
The game picks up from the narrative of 2004 release Jak 3 and sees our heroes fighting against the threat posed to their world by dark eco. The game features lots of new weapons and vehicles, and of course the series’ trademark humour.
The first game in the series was released on PS2 in 2001. Alongside two full-blooded sequels, the pair have also produced 2005’s Jak X: Combat Racing on PS2 and PSP title Daxter in 2006. In total the series has sold some 6m units in PAL territories.

Sony Ericsson break-up points to PSP phone |
|
Sony Ericsson could be on the verge of breaking up, according to a new report. But is Sony planning a buy out of Ericsson so it can release a PSP phone, and reap the rewards by itself?
It appears all is not well in joint venture Sony Ericsson, with the two camps now apparently turning on each other. A new report alleges that Sony is planning to buy out Ericsson’s share in the merged mobile phone maker, and we think we know why: Sony wants to release a PSP phone by itself.
Sony Ericsson was reported to have pitched a PSP phone to Sony a few months ago but was denied, while the recent Sony restructuring put former PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai in charge of "new mobile products", another indicator of a PSP phone.
